Devil's Den with Daddy

Nick got to have tons of quality time with Daddy today, while Mommy worked all day. They went on several adventures, one of which was going on Nick's first hike at Devil's Den.

Nick loved to run along the trails and explore everything in site! He probably walked about 2 miles on the trail (in and back).
The boys found some really cool rock formations and caves, an explorer's delight!
Yes, Daddy is crazy and left Nick sitting up there by himself. Thankfully, I can vouch for the fact that he is still in one piece (not even a scratch or a bruise!).


Then they came across a field of dandelions. Nick picked them all and blew on them to send the seeds flying.

Boots and big boy underwear

By now we all know that Nick loves shoes, especially if they're from Mommy's closet. He also seems to love to try and wear the ones that would be the hardest. Somehow, with some assistance from Daddy, he managed to get my snow boots on!

They are nearly as big as he is!

He also wanted to show off his new big boy underwear!! He still doesn't get the concept that underwear cannot absorb things like diapers. But hey, they look super cool.

Nick picked out the Thomas the Train ones all by himself. He also got a few pairs of Cars underwear. Now maybe one day he'll figure out how to use them correctly...

Chow Time

Last Sunday we decided to go out for brunch. Despite the fact that Nick had already had a full breakfast, he was apparently very hungry.

He ate half of a bagel, and one and a half muffins, and some of Mommy's sandwich!
Afterwards I think he may have actually still been a little hungry because he kept asking for food. I'm really not sure where he puts it all...

Glasses

Poor little man has been sick this week. Yesterday was Daddy's turn to stay home with him. Eric had an eye doctor appointment to follow up on some things, so Nick got to go with him. After going to the doctor's, they went to the store to try on some glasses. Nick got in on the action too! In honor of Grandpa Muffin's avatar on Wii, Nick insisted on trying on these glasses!!

Glasses really do make you look older and wiser!

He's way too cool for the camera - he already has the paparazzi shield down pat! Nick can now proceed to become famous!

Even More Mexico

The resort and the pools and beach were just so beautiful, and although Nick wouldn't look at the camera, the infinity pool behind us makes it seem like the water goes on forever.

Nick loved to climb up us, stand up high on our shoulders and yell "taka naka". We're not sure what exactly it means, but he had a blast!

Aside from the macaws, there were some white birds that also frequented the resort. Nick thoroughly enjoyed chasing them around and making them fly off.

No trip would be complete without a macaw on Grandpa Muffin's arm! It was super cool how well behaved the birds were.




Despite one cloudy day and a little rain shower one morning, it was a wonderful family vacation! It was so great to spend so much time with little man and mom and dad at one time. Hopefully we can do it again next year!

More Mexico

So aside from the one little trip to the ruins, we spent tons of time at the pool and small trips down to the beach. Nick loved to jump from the tanning shelf into Daddy's arms in the water.

One afternoon we went down to the beach and decided to play in the sand. Nick got covered in sand but had a great time.
Even Grandma totally enjoyed playing in the sand... perhaps it was the drink? ;)
There was a bank of sand between one part of the beach and the part of the beach that met the water. Nick and Eric decided to dig a big hole into this bank.

They spent a long time digging and digging and of course getting sand all in Nick's hair!

Thankfully all of the sand came out in the shower later that evening!

Tulum

We went crazy one day and actually decided to see some of Mexico and leave the resort. We took an 1 1/2 hour drive to Tulum, some of the Mayan ruins outside of Cancun. While these are no Machu Pichu, they were beautiful since they were set on the water.

Nick loved being able to explore all of the ruins and run around the site. We enjoyed chasing after him :)

Occasionally he would even stop for long enough and look sort of in the direction of the camera so we could take a picture!



So by now you may be wondering where Grandpa Muffin is in all of these pictures. No, I did not edit him out. No, Grandpa Muffin was with the tour guide soaking up all of the history of the ruins.

There was a staircase down to the water where you could access the beach. The waves scared Nick so we didn't go swimming, but it was a beautiful beach.



All in all it was a great adventure and wonderful to actually see some cultural things during our trip.
